Y: Marshals, the Yellowstone spinoff starring Luke Grimes, is one of the most highly anticipated CBS shows coming next year. The network confirmed the 2026 midseason premiere during Upfronts week. Now, we know when Grimes and the rest of the cast and crew will start filming Y: Marshals!
According to a report from The Salt Lake Tribune, Y: Marshals is set to start filming sometime in the fall of 2025. We don’t know the exact production start date, but that’s very much in line with the broadcast shows and seasons that will premiere in 2026.
In addition to the fall start date, the report also revealed that Y: Marshals will be filmed in and around Summit County, Utah. It’s just one of a handful of productions announced by the Utah Board of Tourism Development.
Here’s what Adam Morra of Paramount Global said about filming Y: Marshals in Utah, via The Salt Lake Tribune:
“Utah is such a draw for film and television because of its diverse landscapes, fantastic crews, and amazing, knowledgeable film office. There is no doubt, though, the film incentive is a vital and necessary part of the package.”
So, Y: Marshals will likely feel a little bit different than the more recent seasons of Yellowstone, which were actually filmed in Montana. The series actually filmed the first three seasons in Utah, though, before production moved for tax reasons. In other words, Grimes and Co. are no strangers to the location where Y: Marshals will be filmed.
Unlike the other Yellowstone spinoffs, Y: Marshals is the first of the bunch to make the jump directly to CBS. The other shows, mainly, were released on Paramount Network and Paramount+. It definitely signals a shift that Yellowstone and that world are going much more mainstream. It’s going to be very interesting to see how it all plays out, honestly. Hopefully, for fans of Grimes and his character Kayce Dutton, even more new fans will tune in on CBS.
As for what fans can expect, we’re going to watch Kayce’s journey continue after the events of the final season of Yellowstone. Kayce moves on from the days on the Yellowstone ranch and becomes a member of the U.S. Marshals. So, there will be a law enforcement element of the series, too.
Spencer Hudnut, who also created SEAL Team, is the writer and showrunner of the Yellowstone spinoff.
As of right now, it looks like the earliest we can expect to see Y: Marshals on CBS is in early 2026. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Y: Marshals will premiere sometime in the spring of 2026, but I don’t know if that’s been confirmed by Paramount yet. We’ll have to wait until the fall, at the earliest, to learn the official premiere date for the new series.
Y: Marshals is far from the only Yellowstone spinoff in the works. We also have Dutton Ranch starring Cole Hauser and Beth Reilly, along with 1944 and more!
Stay tuned for more news about Y: Marshals! We’ll let you know more when we find out!
